“Don’t forget that human beings have a responsibility to one another,
and that Americans will always have a responsibility to the oppressed.”
Born on the Fourth of July, 1983, Mark grew up in Irvine, California. In 2005 he graduated from UCLA, commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and Distinguished Military Graduate, and married his lovely wife Janet.
Fellow officer Matt Gallagher wrote, “Mark channeled idealism into action in a manner that seemed natural to him. Mark had rugged optimism. Men like him weren’t supposed to exist anymore, except maybe in the minds of our Greatest Generation. He gave us something to aspire to as leaders.”
Known by friends and colleagues as a natural leader, mentor, and role model, Mark served with distinction in Iraq before being killed January 15, 2007. A son, brother, and husband, Mark will be remembered for his ability to write and speak with eloquence, intelligence, and humor.
